Akiles Binding Machines

So you have an Akiles binding machine and you are happy with its performance with paper (we agree!) but you want to know if it can do more. Specifically, can your binding machine punch thicker materials other than paper?

The simple answer is YES!

While specifically designed to punch paper and binding report covers (they are called binding machines, after all) Akiles binding machines can also punch some thicker materials. Basically, Akiles has advised that you could potentially be able to punch materials that are as thick as the punching throat allows, which is about 2mm depending on the model you have. They do, however, always recommend that you send samples to them for evaluation and testing before you try it on your own machine. Please note, however, that not all materials will work, and some could potentially damage the machine. For this reason we caution that you always use care with choosing what materials (and how much) to punch. These book binding punch machines (or any document binding punches, for that matter) are not meant to punch through more unique, specialty materials including (but not limited to) treated paper stocks, metal, glued pages, wood, fabric, gummy materials, and glass.
