The Akiles MegaBind-1 is a Manual Punch and Bind system for GBC style plastic binding combs.
The MegaBind punches up to 25 sheets of 20 lb. bond paper and with the 24 dis-engagable punching dies, it can handle documents sizes up to a 14” legal size.
The side margin control makes sure the punched holes are evenly centered for all document sizes.
And the punching gutter margin control provides the correct punch-margin-depth for each comb size and maximizes the document's tear resistance.
The Megabind has a binding capacity from 3/16" to 2" which allows for documents with just a couple of pages or large books up to 425 sheets.
The Binding guild allows the user to determine the correct comb size to use.
The Binding Comb lock provides the operator a stop position for preventing over opening the combs. This is especially helpful when doing the same comb sizes, making repetitive sizes much easier.
Let’s see it in action, simply punch your document, drop the comb onto the binding station and pull the handle opening the comb. Drop the punched sheets on the comb and release the handle and you’re all done, simple as that.

I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
The MegaBind-1 is a great machine for lower volume plastic binding needs, offering simple and powerful punching and comb spreading for an all-in-one solution. It has everything you need to make a professional comb bound document, in a fairly compact and heavy-duty casing. It works well for smaller businesses, engineering and law firms, and schools who bind only a couple times a week or only a few books at a time; basically any office who won’t have any issues with the manual aspects of this unit.
 

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT:
One of the key features of this machine is the “continuous binding control” knob that lets you set the closer portion of the machine to a specific size. This may not seem like much, but it prevents over-opening of a comb, which is a common complaint from users who have experienced it on other machines; this simple knob solves the problem. I also like that both handles (to punch and to control the comb spreader) are on the same side of the system; it just makes for a smoother workflow to have it all in the same area.

This all-metal comb binding is also made with strong, sturdy parts that will last for years of use. This reliability is something that we have come to expect from Akiles products manufacturing. THINGS TO CONSIDER:
A lot of machines have a waste compartment on the back, including the MegaBind-1. This is a bit of a hassle, because if your machine is placed up against a wall, you have to pull it forward in order to empty the tray. This sometimes leads to users forgetting to empty the tray, creating backflow and jams. For this reason, I recommend this machine be placed on a center island, or on a rolling cart for easy mobility to access the tray. I would also like the binding guide on the machine to have a deeper inset to make sliding the thicker books.
 

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Other than the couple of nit-picky issues I pointed out, the MegaBind-1 from Akiles and Binding101 is a great choice for lower volume gbc comb binder needs. It is strong and powerful, while remaining affordable, and offering all of the necessary functions to create professional, plastic bound documents.
