The Onyx HD7700 Ultima Heavy Duty Electric Punch is a top of the line single punch solution for all your binding needs. It's solid, heavy duty, and comes with an industry leading three year manufacturer's warranty. The Onyx HD7700 ships complete in one box and includes both the palm switch and the foot pedal, giving you two ways to activate the punch. The foot pedal provides hands-free convenience while the palm switch allows you to activate the punch using the same hand you are holding the paper with. One of the greatest features of all Rhin-O-Tuff Onyx punches is the interchangeable die system. Rhin-O-Tuff has created more than twenty interchangeable dies that fit into this machine alone, and they install easily, just like you see. No matter what bind, punch panel or look you are going for, this is one machine that handles all of your needs. Each die is priced separately and there are dies for plastic comb, wire loop, plastic coil, velo-bind and three hole loose leaf. The Onyx HD7700 is designed for function with it's power and unlocked die warning indicator lights, as well as it's transparent chip tray door so you can clearly see how things are filling up. Depending on the die being used, the HD Seventy-Seven Hundred can punch up to fifty-five sheets of twenty pound paper, or up to five plastic Mylar sheets regardless of the die. And as with all Rhin-O-Tuff Onyx punches, if too much paper is inserted during a punch, the auto-reverse feature will reverse the pins in the machine to reduce jamming. With our margin-stop system, the Onyx HD7700 delivers exactly what you need according to the paper and die you are using. And with the dial to the left of the unit, you can even fine-tune your setting, so you can set it, forget it, and run your whole project without fear. If you want confident and consistent punching, the Onyx HD7700 Ultima Heavy Duty Electric Punch is a great bet!

This is how you assemble and operate the Rhin-O-Tuff Onyx HD7700 Ultima; a heavy duty, top of the line, table-top punch for all your punching needs. You'll find all the parts of assembly that you'll need in the chip tray; the oil for die lubrication, two handles to lock and unlock the die, a power cord, a palm switch, and the foot pedal. The first step is to install the two handles. Insert them on both sides, screwing them tight all the way down. These will service the locking and unlocking of the punch dies. The Onyx HD7700 comes with a foot pedal that plugs into the back of the machine and activates the punch. Also included with this machine is the palm switch, which is an alternate way of activating the punch. It plugs into the same place on the back of the machine and is controlled either by finger or by palm. For the Onyx HD7700, the dies go in on the right hand side. Slide a selected die all the way in the opening until the black part is flush with the machine, and then lock both handles on the right and the left. Note that if you turn on the unit and you forget to lock the die, you will find an indicator light lit. Lock the die and the light will go off, and then you're ready to go. Now, let's see it in action. First, you will need to set the margin stop according to your project's needs. Lift the margin stop and position it to the correct size paper and die configuration that you are using. Twist the dial on the left side of the machine to fine tune the margin stop to get it exactly on the line that you need. Next, you'll run a test paper. Slide the paper into the throat of the machine, all the way over to the left, and press down on the palm switch or the foot pedal. Fold the paper in half, aligned by it's corners, and see if all the holes line up. This will show you if the punch is centered and whether or not there are any mis-punched or half-punched holes. We have one in this case, and thus we will remove the pin we don't need. Unlock the die using the handles on both sides of the machine and pull the die out. Remove the carriage top, pull out the corresponding pin, put the top back on, and you're all set. Pin removal for all Rhin-O-Tuff dies are done the same way. Now, slide the die back into the machine and lock both handles on the left and right hand side. Let's make a second test punch to see how we're doing. This one looks perfect. Now you can now begin your job. Insert a lift of paper, activate the punch by foot petal or palm switch, remove the lift of paper, and repeat until the job is done. Depending on the die being used, the HD7700 can punch up to 55 sheets of 20 pound paper. If too much paper is inserted during a punch, the auto-reverse feature will reverse the pins in the machine to reduce jamming. However, if a paper jam does occur, you can use the manual reverse handle to undo the jam. Remove the cover over the manual reverse hole located on the left side of the unit, and insert the detachable handle located on the back of the unit. It fits right into the groove of the handle. Turning it counter clockwise will reverse the pins in the machine. If you need to, you can peer down just to the left of the margin stop and see the pins clear before you remove your paper. Lastly, the chip tray in the front is transparent so you can keep an eye on how many chips are building up. If it's full, make sure you empty it before continuing. And that's all you need to know to set-up and operate the Rhin-O-Tuff Onyx HD7700 Ultima Heavy Duty Electric Punch.

I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
The HD7700 is a premium binding punch that fits is perfectly with large print and copy shops that need the versatility to produce all kinds of bound books (such as wire-o, spiral binding coil, plastic comb, and so much more) but are not so large that they need a fully automated binding machine. It is capable or handling jobs of all sizes, and can be used for the entire work-day, without much rest. This also makes it a popular choice for large offices that make client presentations frequently and in large quantities.
WHAT I LIKE:
The durability of the HD7700 is a huge plus in my book. By just touching the machine you can tell that it is made of high-quality parts and components; it is made in the USA! When I was testing this machine, I noticed that, although very powerful, the punching noise is surprisingly quiet as compared with the old version of the machine (watch a comparison video here) and seemed very smooth (meaning it doesn't sound like it struggles to punch through even thick stacks). The punched holes were also very precise and clean.
Versatility is also a huge perk of the HD7700. There are a large selection of punching dies available that can be easily changed out between jobs without any tools or mechanical background; all it takes is the pull of a handle to change out the dies and switch the functionality of the machine. This ability to morph is why I like to call these Rhin-O-Tuff® ONYX machines "binding chameleons"…because they can be changed and adjusted to meet the needs of a variety of industries. Because the dies are sold individually, you also only have to buy what you will use, and can expand upon that in the future if your needs change and your business grows.
In addition, the ONYX HD7700 has a very high sheet capacity, rated to handle as many as 55 sheets of paper at a time. Yeah, this is for standard copy paper so it will be less for covers and for thicker stocks, but this capacity is unheard of in other table top units, which normally punch around 25 or so. Other quality heavy duty punches, like HD7000 (for medium workloads) will even only punch through 40 sheets…so the ONYX HD7700 does 37.5% more sheets with one pass. It is truly a powerful tabletop binding punch.
Of course, I also love the look on the newer ONYX line of punches, which are all a sleek black metal and look very modern and high-quality, especially when compared to other machines that are a tan or gray color. The look is just "the look", and plays no part in the functionality... but for me, if you have any customers that might see the machine, it looks impressive like it can produce better books than the older ones.
The HD7700 also requires very little maintenance to keep it running smoothly and producing professional-quality documents. First, be sure to empty the waste tray often; this simple step prevents back-ups and jams and potential damage to the machine, and should be done as frequently as your workload requires. From time to time you can also punch a sheet of steel wool a few times through, which will remove any paper dust from the pins and help keep the pins sharp, both of which are needed to produce those clean-cut holes. If your pins need replacing, it doesn’t mean you have to buy a whole new die; you can simply order a replacement pin set. The ability to replace these small wearable parts will save your business money in the long run.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
As is true for all of the Rhin-O-Tuff® punching machines, the ONYX HD7700 is a punch-only machine, and will not actually bind your books. To bind, you will need to purchase a binding module that will correspond with the type of book you are making. If you are using plastic comb, consider the HD4470 comb spreader. If you are using spiral binding coils, consider the HD4170 electric coil inserting module. Or if you are working with Wire-O, you can use the HD8000 wire closer. These are the Rhin-O-Tuff® modules, but you can really use any modules of your choice. The benefit of these, of course, is that they are built for the same heavy volume as the punch machine (again, made in the USA). They can also be mounted directly onto the machine for a streamlined look, or can be used separately as well, depending on user preference.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
The ONYX HD7700 is a high-quality binding punch that offers great value, awesome strength, and professional-quality punches, every time. There is no other machine in it’s class that can compare. It is sleek, creates clean punches through thick stacks of paper, is versatile, and offers an ease-of-use that means no special training is required; so everyone in your office or shop can use it when needed. For any larger print and copy shop, or for any large office, this machine is a perfect fit.
