Overview

The Akiles WireMac-EX is a perfect mid-line wire punching and binding machine that offers the convenience of electric punching at a more economical price point than other machines on the market, without substituting quality. Akiles has achieved this by manufacturing a smaller motor that, although still built with quality in mind, is meant to handle medium workloads, keeping the price down. This all-in-one wire binder machine is perfect for offices that have daily or weekly Wire-O® twin loop binding needs, but don't need to bind consistently throughout the day. All of the punching pins can be disengaged, and several adjustment opportunities allow for a perfectly finished wire book. For a fast and professional wire binding machine with the capabilities to create a clean finished book, buy the Akiles WireMac-EX electric Wire-O® binding machine online; it is available in either a 3:1 and 2:1 pitch model.

Description

The Akiles WireMac-EX electric Wire-O® binding machine offers fast, easy and professional twin loop wire binding that is perfect for medium-duty offices that want the efficiency of an all-in-one wire binder, as well as high-quality parts that are built to last, all at a cost-efficient price point. The foot-pedal activated electric punching action makes punching through up to 25 sheets* of paper easy. A manual wire closer that is activated with a handle will finish the wire and close it around your pages. You can control the depth of the hole punch to customize your book for more tear-resistance while side-margin control makes it easy to perfectly align your pages for centered holes. The front of the WireMac-EX has a wire selector to help you determine what size Wire spines you need. Fully disengageable pins give you complete control over which holes will activate when the foot pedal is pressed, which is ideal for users who need the capability of doing multiple sheet sizes without running the risk of punching partial holes on the edges. An open-ended punching throat is 14" wide, however, allows for documents up to 28" to be punching buy just flipping over your book and punching again. A unique reverse function allows for manual reverse of the motor and pins, which is a great feature to clear paper jams.

WireMac-EX Expert Review by Mallory Morsa

I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
The WireMac-EX is a new Akiles machine that is a great option for mid-duty twin loop book binding in offices that need the strength of a machine capable of handling daily binding, but not one that should be run all day long without rest periods every few hours. If you are not binding daily and need something less-powerful, you may want to check out the Akiles WireMac-M. Or if you need something heavier duty or for more frequent and larger workloads, you may want to consider the WireMac-E and possibly even add the FlexiCloser Electric Wire Closer.

WHAT I LIKE:
I like that this machine is at a good price point between the manual machines and the heavy duty electric machines. It offers a combination of manual and electric features, along with a medium-duty motor, that help to keep the pricing economical while still providing really high-quality components. I like that punching is activated with a foot pedal instead of a button, because it gives you both hands to be able to handle your documents with complete control. I love that it has a stylish black finish that will match well in any office (much better than the industrial-looking tan on many other machines). It also has the 100% disengageable pins, which is a huge perk if your book size ever varies because it lets you stop a specific hole from punching. This cool feature also lets you make patterns of punching for creative wire binding.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:
Just remember that, just because this is an electric punch, does not mean it is meant for high capacities or heavy volumes – it is an office-rated machine that can be run daily, but should not be used for longer than two to three hours without cool-down periods. The wire closer is still manual, so you will need to set it for the different wire sizes you are using and pull the handle around your wire to close it.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Overall the WireMac-EX is a great office-duty machine for anyone who needs to bind twin loop books on a daily basis, but not continuously. The electric punching stops your arms from getting tired of punching and punching through stack after stack, and the black finish is sleek and looks great on a desk or workstation. As long as you work within the parameters of this machine, it is a great option and will give you beautifully finished wire bound books.
