I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
The Accel Flex from Coverbind and Binding101 is the perfect machine for small and mid-sized businesses looking to create more professional documents than traditional punch-and-bind. It is also great for those looking to increase their speed drastically, allow for on-demand binding by anyone in their office, and expand the capabilities of the finished look to include both soft and hard cover books. Popular customers include schools (yearbooks, publications, gifts for parents, course catalogs), businesses (proposals, presentations, annual reports, board meeting tools), real estate agencies (proposals, sales tools, home buyer gifts), and photography studios (photo books, gallery highlights, sponsorship/donor requests), and so many more. Basically, if you bind less than about 2,000 books per year, the Flex is a great choice. (Bind more than that? Consider the Accel Cube or Accel Ultra for a more automated, even faster solution with the same great quality.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT:
The more accurate question here is what don’t I like about the Flex machine. I gave this model a clean 5 stars, and the choice to do was simple. This machine is compact, but packs a huge punch, increasing production speed 15-fold. Let’s compare for a moment…punching and binding with wire, for instance, will take the average experienced user about one to two minutes per book. This includes punching batches of sheets, the covers, hanging the wire, looping the pages onto the wire, and then closing it. Thermal binding with the Flex, however, allows you to (a) bind up to 15 books at one time, depending on their thickness, and (b) bind without punching any pages. All you do is place your sheets as-is into a Coverbind cover, and place the cover on the Flex plate. It automatically begins binding and, after the 1 minute binding cycle, it is complete. The big advantage here in regards to speed is binding multiple books at once and eliminating the hassle and labor-fatigue associated with punching.
Versatility in binding is another major benefit of this little powerhouse. The Coverbind cover selection includes soft covers of several kinds, including full linen wraps, linen and clear front wraps, linen with window, several hard cover options, and more. There are even customizable covers that you can print on-demand in your office. This machine will not only impress your staff using it, but also the people that you present the documents to, whether they be investors, customers, or anyone in between.
Simplicity! Can I talk about the simplicity for a moment? The Flex is SO EASY and safe to use that anyone in your office can use it whenever they need to, without any special training. The kids could bind books on “take your children to work” day. Punching and binding is tedious and tiring, but the Flex eliminates all of that with simple drop binding; drop your pages into a cover, and drop that cover onto the machine. One minute later, drop the covers into the cooling rack. And you’re done!
I hope it doesn’t sound like a rant, but I really can’t get enough of this machine. I don’t know why every single office doesn’t have one. Especially at the impressively low price point. The Accel Flex is incredibly affordable as-is, and when you compare it to the price of other machines deemed for this volume, well…there is no comparison. The Flex blows every other binding machine out of the water.
Choosing to buy the Accel Flex thermal binding is an easy decision if you value your wallet, speed, efficiency, ease-of-use, versatility, and a machine that takes up very little space. This sleek, black binding machine is a premier choice, without a premier price point. I highly recommend it for users wanting to improve their overall binding process.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
The primary thing you should think about before purchasing the Flex is the finished look you wish to achieve. Take a look at the Coverbind covers here to see all of the options possible. If your ideal bound document doesn’t matcvh the look these covers offer, then you may want to consider a different kind of binding.
You may also want to think about the thickest book you need to bind. Thermal binding covers, depending on the style, go up to about 2” thick spines, which will bind an average of 430-500 sheets of basic copy paper. If you need to bind thicker proposals, then the Flex may not be the best choice for you.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Want to increase speed? Expand the possible finished looks of your documents? Make on=-demand binding easy to achieve for your entire staff? Bind both hard and soft cover books whenever you need? Bind multiple books at a time, up to 2” thick? And do you bind less than about 170 documents per month? Then the Accel Flex binding machine from Coverbind is the perfect model for you.
The Accel Flex will heat up when a document is placed on the heating plate.
There are 3 reasons that this would happen...
\n ① It wasn't cooled enough before handling. Documents need to cool for 1-2 minutes minimum before handling so the glue can fully cool and bind your pages.
\n ② The cover is over-stuffed, including more pages than recommended.
\n ③ The cover was pinched during binding, which prevents the pages from sinking into the warming glue. This may happen if the machine is over-stuffed with documents.
The Accel Flex is actually an upgraded version of the Coverbind 5000, so they are the same in function, with a new, upgraded look.
