What Gauge are Plastic Comb Bindings?
When talking about plastic binding combs (also often called GBC combs) and someone asks "what gauge are plastic comb bindings", what they are referring to is the the thickness of the actual plastic PVC material itself. As the comb diameter gets larger to bind a larger book, the gauge of the plastic also gets thicker to correspond with the additional weight of a thicker book. The gauge of a plastic binding comb has no affect on its compatibility with your plastic comb binding machine; it is simply just a piece of the plastic comb puzzle. Most people don't need to know the PVC comb thickness, but for those of you that do, we have put together this chart comparing the comb diameter size and the gauge of that comb's PVC plastic. These gauges are approximations, and may have a slight variance.
