Description

With the ClipsShop CSTON-1 grommet press, you can accomplish grommeting with a variety of grommet sizes from tiny #XX00 grommets, up to medium #5.5 grommets efficiently and with little effort. It features a stroking mechanism that activates when the handle is pulled slightly, eliminating the effort normally associated with grommeting. After the handle is pulled, the machine takes over and the spring-loaded stroking feature shoots the grommet into the material. This convenient feature means you don't have to use much strength or effort to set grommets, even through many materials that are typically more difficult to work with. This pressure is also adjustable, so you can set it to work properly with different materials, lending to a perfect finished grommet without over-setting and crunching the grommet, and without under-setting, leaving the grommet loose or not cutting the hole all the way through. Adjustment is simple, using the screw system near the top of the machine and requiring no special tools.

It is also simple to use...just install the proper ClipsShop die for your application, set the stroking pressure, add the corresponding ClipsShop grommets, and pull the handle. The die change over is also an easy process and won't require any special training. It features a very heavy base for proper stability, so it stays firm against your work space while grommeting, so you don't have to worry about it lifting. This means you can use the CSTON-1 free standing, but it can also be used bench-mounted.

The ClipsShop CSTON-1 works with the most popular grommet sizes including 1/8" #XX00 grommets, 11/64" #X00 grommets, 3/16" #00 grommets, 1/4" #0 grommets, 5/16" #1 grommets, 3/8" #2 grommets, 7/16" #3 grommets, and 11/16" #5.5 grommets. All of these grommets are self-piercing, meaning they turn the typically two-step process of first punching a hole and then setting a grommet into a one-step process that accomplishes both actions simultaneously. If you are working with an extra-difficult material, you can still purchase a hole cutting die and setting die separately, however, the self-piercing die and grommets work with a large majority of materials.

This world renowned table top grommet press is popular in a variety of industries including signage, tarps, marine industries, upholstery, military textile, leather, fashion, and much more. It is even suitable for use with vinyl, corrugated and other plastic materials, a huge variety of fabrics, foam boards, and more. Known as one of the best professional grommet press machines in the world, the ClipsShop CSTON-1 blows the competition out of the water and will provide years of perfect performance with the heavy duty and durable manufacturing.

CSTON-1 Expert Review by Mallory Morsa

I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
The CSTON-1 is an ideal option for anyone who grommets… seriously, I recommend this for everyone who does less than high-production use. Basically, the “stroking” feature makes it so much easier to set grommets through materials of all kinds, that I recommend it even for lower volume users who might not even grommet daily, especially if you work with a variety of materials. Ok, ok… I guess I could say that if you are working with very low volumes and only need to set grommets, say, less than every month on one or two items, or if you do the exact same basic vinyl sign material only, then you could consider the CSTEP-2, but I still greatly prefer this machine over any other less expensive ones. If you need something for more industrial use, consider the CSPIC-2 Pneumatic Grommet Press.

WHAT I LIKE:
A really heavy duty base makes the CSTON-1 very steady on your work table. This strong base is important to prevent lifting when pressing down the handle. And of course, like I mentioned above, the “stroking” feature makes grommet setting very very easy. It is a spring-action that means you don’t have to apply a lot of pressure to the handle to set the grommet… you basically just pull it down to start it and the spring action "pops" it down through your material. The spring loading is also adjustable, so you can set the tension depending on the material type and material thickness you are using, so you can get the perfect set, every time (note: these adjustments are also important to prevent damage to the die and punching bar, so be sure to adjust it before every new material is used, including before your very first use). This means you can do a huge variety of grommet crafts through a huge variety of materials. I also like the blue color of the machine, making it look clean and modern.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:
Grommet presses are heavy and hard to lift and move around; but this is a good thing, in actuality, since it lends to that really sturdy base I mentioned above. But you may need help placing it on the work bench and moving it, if necessary. You should keep in mind that this hand press can handle only up to a #5.5 grommet, also known as an 11/16” grommet. Though this does allow for the most popular sizes (even as small as #XX00 1/8”), it does limit you from using anything larger than a #5.5 grommet, which excludes the #12 that are most commonly used for curtains.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Grommeting through anything but standard fabrics or vinyl sign materials can be difficult when you have to use only the force of your own arm, but with the CSTON-1 spring-loaded stroking action it is significantly easier. Though built with the quality components for medium to heavy duty workloads, I also recommend this machine for lower volume workloads as well because of the huge benefit of that spring loaded setting feature. That simple feature alone adds huge value to this machine and, to me, makes it worth the additional investment. The fact that it is also adjustable makes it even more valuable, because you can change how powerful and far-down the machine press goes, which ensures that you get a perfectly set grommet, no matter the material you use.

Frequent Asked Questions

Q
What kind of metal/used to manufacture this machine? How can one avoid rust? My machine is full of rust. What is the maintenance strategy or way for this machine? Please advise
Asked by Livhuwani
A
Hello again. To remove the rust from your current machine, you can try a spray called "Rust Dissolver" from Rust-Oleum. This can be found at various retail shops, including Lowe's.
Answer by Binding101
The machines are made from steel and then they are powder coated. They will rust if left outside or in a damp area. I will have to ask the manufacturer how to avoid rusting or if there is something you can put on it -- I will get back to you on that.

Q
What does "stroking" mean?
Asked by Customer
A

The stroking feature refers to a spring-action, which makes setting grommets through even tough materials much easier than traditional hand presses, because it doesn't take much force from your operator. While the handle is pulled, spring-action takes over and shoots your grommet into the material.

Q
Why is the die loosening?
Asked by Customer
A

It is normal for the die to slowly loosen over time with normal use. It should be a preventative maintenance step to check the die before each use to ensure it is tight. If a loose die is used, it can break the die as well as the piece above the die.
