The Akiles CoilMac-ER Series Spiral Binding Binding Machine is a fully featured, heavy-duty manual coil punching machine, with a built-in mini electric coil inserter. The re-designed & improved CoilMac-ER is the ideal partner for low to mid-volume workloads. It features an extended 13" punching throat with open ends, allowing for larger sheets with just a second punch (up to 26"). With a higher punching capacity than other machines of its size, the CoilMac-ER can punch through up to 20 sheets of 20# bond paper at a time. A super strength punch mechanism with an exclusive “precision guiding system™" features a cast-hardened and heat-treated steel die hardened blade set for a powerful and clean punch, every time. The coil inserter is foot-pedal operated, leaving both hands free to hold your book. Side margin control lets you perfectly center your holes for different paper sizes, while document margin control offers you the ability to adjust the depth of the holes, so you can find what works for your book. Rugged all-metal construction makes the CoilMac-ER extremely reliable and durable. A large waster drawer allows for more punching with less trips to the trash can, and non-skid rubber feet keep the machine firmly in place while in use. The CoilMac-ER has received CE certification, approved through the most stringent requirements, and has also been manufactured under ISO9001 & 14001 guidelines for highest quality control & environmental management standards. Included with your purchase is a coil diameter selector tool and premium oval coil cutter crimpers.

Hi! I am Mallory and I am the editor here at BUY101. I have been with the team since 2008, where I started out as a customer service representative, learning the in's and out's of every product we offer. I then moved into a roll of product management that required even more product research as well as new product training, sharing my extensive product and industry knowledge with our entire BUY101 team, and now, with you in my honest reviews.
I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
Small offices that are looking for a machine with an electric inserter, but don’t want to invest in a full-sized one. It is a great middle-point between the CoilMac-M+ manual machine, and the CoilMac-ECI manual machine with a full-sized electric inserter.
WHAT I LIKE:
The entire CoilMac line of binding machines from Akiles are great– they are all made of really quality parts (not like the cheapy plastic machines) and are built to last. Backed by a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty, Akiles stands behind their machines with pride, and the CoilMac-ER is no different. There are also two versions available to choose from: a standard or a “plus” model. I always recommend the plus, because the added benefits are totally worth the minimal extra cost. The plus offers oval holes for easier coil inserting, and fully disengageable punching pins for customizable hole patterns. The electric coil inserter rolls help remove the need to spin the coil through every individual hole. Instead, you can just spin it through a few holes, then hold it up to the electric inserter to spin through the rest. Although this doesn’t play into the functionality of the binder, the black and gray design on the Coilmac-ER is has a great look that matches other office equipment and just looks more modern than a lot of other machines out there.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
Yes, this machine has a mini roller inserter, but the small size does not assist nearly as conveniently or efficiently as the full-size one found on the CoilMac-ECI. Sometimes having an electric inserter that is activated just by a button eliminates some of the control over inserting, but I actually find it a little easier that way, over using a foot pedal like the CoilMac-ER does. Not to say this is a bad feature overall, I just personally prefer the push-button simple on/off when it comes to electric inserting.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Akiles machines are always going to be a good choice of brand name for binding machines. The CoilMac-ER is no different – a combination of user-friendly features and durable design make it a great choice for a small office or even a personal-user who wants the convenience of an electric inserter, without the huge financial investment.
