Description

The Alpha-Doc has been a staple in the automatic punching market for many years, but the recent improvements have made it even more impressive and versatile than before. With the new and improved Alpha-Doc® MK4 punch, you can produce perfectly punched sheets in any number of binding styles at speeds as fast as 94,200 sheets per hour. This is a cycle speed of 90 cycles per minute, all without the constant presence of an operator. It enhances your finished book appearance, increases productivity, and offers easy setup so your operators don't need any special training or background in mechanical knowledge.

The operation of the Alpha-Doc MK4 is simple, and only requires the user to setup the machine for the job, press start, and then walk away. This leaves them free to perform other tasks while the machine automatically punches, saving labor costs for your business. It can handle up to 6 full reams of paper at a time with the very large capacity pile feeder and reception bins. The stacker is on separate wheels to allow for easy movement to your binding and finishing machines. In addition, it is extremely versatile. Not only can this industrial binding punch handle bindings of all kinds, (including the incredibly popular Wire-O, spiral binding coils, and plastic combs, and more), but it can also handle a wide variety of paper stocks, including mixed stocks and tabbed sheets from 16 lb. bond through 110 lb. index and from as small as 5.4" x 5.4" up to as large as 14" x 13" pages. It even works with tabs that are pre-collated as well as wall calendars with a thumbcut hole. The simplified paper path and unique turnover device guarantee that your sheets will be kept in perfect pre-collated order.

In this video we will review some of the frequently asked questions about the AlphaDoc MK4 (also called the Mark 4). Answering our questions is Bob Cooke, the official James Burn automatic punch and binding expert

Q) How do you change the Alpha-Doc dies?
A) Dies on the Alpha-Doc Mark 4 – the dies go into the back side of the machine. You take out three 13mm bolts. You do need a 13mm open-end wrench that comes with the machine. Take out those bolts, put the new die in, then replace the bolt and tighten them down.

Q) How do I change the sheet size?
A) Changeover for the size is done completely by the screen. You set the size in; you have 4 custom formats, and then you have your standard sizes (like 11 x 8.5, 8.5 x 5.5 – all the standard size sheets) and then you have 4 custom formats that you can go in and make those whatever you want. You select whatever sheet size you are doing, and the machine sets itself up.

Q) Does the Alpha-Doc have a storage compartment?
A) Waste chips and spare dies go down here. Your dies can stack on each side of the waste bin, or up above. And the chip bin is right here; that’s what your chips fall into. There is also a sensor, so if it fills up with chips to the top, it will shut the machine down and throw something up on the screen that tells you that it is full.

Q) How does the feed tray work?
A) You can fit 8 reams of paper in here. When it is down on the bottom you stack all of your paper in. When you hit start, it will home itself and then the tray will come up automatically.

Q) What about the reception tray?
A) The tray will come all the way down to the bottom after it fills up with paper. When it reaches the bottom it shuts itself off and then we can just roll the tray right out on the wheels.

Q) Will my sheets remain collated?
A) The way that you put your paper in, when it comes out in the reception, will be upside down. Because as your paper passes through the die it turns the paper over to keep it in collation.

Q) What sets the Alpha-Doc apart from other machines?
A) The Alpha-Doc, there is no other real machine out there like this. This is the machine between the DocuPunch and the EX where most of our competition is. This machine we recommend to people who do about 3,000,000 (3 million) sheets of paper a month. It is very heavy duty, but it is on wheels still so that you can roll it around where you want and the operator doesn’t have to stand with the machine and stay with it. They can be binding other books while this machine is running their punched paper for them.
