I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
The OffiWire is a personal wire binding machine that is small in stature, and a good option for the individual, at-home user. It is limited in features, making it a good option only for those who will create letter size books in low volumes. If you want to make smaller books, larger books, or custom hole-patterns, then consider upgrading to the WireMac-M, which is still under $300 and offers quite a bit more features and adjustments. If you do fit into this category, then I recommend you also consider the iWire, which has all the same features, but is a tiny bit cheaper in price (honestly, I would choose this OffiWire over the iWire because the wire closing was a little easier to work with, so you could, potentially, waste less wire with mis-closes).
WHAT I LIKE:
I like the look of the OffiWire, because it is clean and looks like an at-home machine; instead of that common “industrial” solid tan look, the pairing of tan and green helps make it prettier. It is also an all-in-one little binder that will punch holes in your pages, and close the wire around the holes, so the only other thing you need to buy are the wire spines themselves. It also has a nice wire selector tool attached so that you can choose the right wire size, depending on your book thickness; this is such a simple tool that makes binding so much more convenient for personal users who might not be as familiar with the binding industry.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
The OffiWire only comes in a 3:1 version option, meaning that you will be limited in the wire sizes that you can use, with a maximum capacity of a 9/16” wire, which will hold approximately 120 sheets of paper (that is basic copy paper for a printer, and doesn’t include covers or heavier stock… it measures out to about 7/16” thick, so adjust accordingly). You should also keep in mind when shopping that this is a low-volume wire binding machine that was built as an at-home binder, so it is not suitable as an office binding machine, unless the binding capacities and needs fit within a typical home user’s, such as less than 1 or 2 books per day.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
The OffiWire is a good option if you are an individual user at home, looking for a simple way to make wire scrapbooks, journals and more. It is a nice little personal binding machine that offers the basics… wire binding for letter size, 3:1 pitch wires. I used it to make a cookbook, personally, but you can use it for all kinds of creative binding… check out our wire binding Pinterest page for some inspiration and fun ideas.
