WireMac-EX Expert Review by Mallory Morsa

I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
The Fellowes Spectra 95 is a small pouch laminator that is ideal for low volume users, such as an individual looking to laminate at home, or a small business with only the occassional lamination need. It is also good for those who will be using only thinner pouches, up to a 5 mil maximum.

WHAT I LIKE:
The price point of this little laminator is one of the biggest selling points. It is so hard to find a quality pouch laminator under $50, but Fellowes has done it withthe Spectra 95. It can handle the two thinner pouches 3 and 5 mil, and has a standard 9.5 inch wide feed opening to handle the most common paper sizes, incuding photos on thinner papers. There is an anti-jam release lever to let you pull out a pouch that is placed misaligned. I also enjoy the look of this laminating machine; it is sleek with a black and silver complimenting color scheme that looks clean and modern.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:
There are several factors to keep in mind before you settle on the Fellowes Spectra 95 laminator. For one, it has a more limited capacity than more expensive machines, capable of handling just 3 mil and 5 mil pouches. 7 mil, 10 mil, and 15 mil pouches wil not work in this machine and can risk damage as they overload the system. This small laminator also does not have adjustable speed settings which limits the users control to tailor it to specific applications. The heat adjustment settings are included, but limited to two presets for 3 or 5 mil pouches.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
For the price, there is no better laminator that we have found. Keeping mind the limitations that come with that price (remember, you do get what you pay for), the Spectra 95 pouch laminator from Fellowes and Binding101 is a great value for smaller offices with infrequent lamination needs, as well as individuals looking to occassionally laminate documents and thin photos.

Frequent Asked Questions

Q
Does this heat up enough to use the foils listed on the site?
Asked by Des
A
Hi Des. Unfortunately, this model cannot handle 10 mil pouches, so it not compatible with our foils. We also checked with Fellowes to get the temperature, and they don't actually market the maximum temp, so we can't confirm if it even gets hot enough to work with foils, in general (300° minimum required, higher recommended).

Here is a list of the laminators that have been tested and approved specifically for foil: https://www.binding101.com/foil-laminators. Some other models will work, but we haven't tested them to confirm.

You can learn more about foil laminating in our resource center here: https://www.binding101.com/resource-center/category/foiling-101
