Description

The Polar E series of laminators is perfect for mounting and laminating photographs, inkjet prints and more. Perfect for the shop that has occasional laminating and mounting jobs that are being outsourced. Bring these projects in-house to control costs and delays in production times associated with outsourcing.

The Polar E series is available in 25", 38" or 55" wide sizes, they can run pressure sensitive mounting and laminating films, as well as pre-coated boards for ease of use. All are electric powered, designed to provide professional results. Easy to use, the exclusive media bar makes it simple for even just one person to mount large over-sized inkjet prints. The release liner rewind mechanism provides a take up for liners on laminating films, something that has not been available before in laminators of this class. An optional stand with castors is available making it simple to move the machine to a work area when needed but allowing it to be stored out of the way when not being used.

Hi. Today we would like to introduce the new Polar E laminators. The laminator is made in 25, 38 and 55 inch widths and the rollers are made from hard silicon covered rubber. As with all Polar laminators, there is a media bar to hold prints in place for mounting. Insert your print between the bar and the roller and close to secure your print. This will give you consistent mounting results. There is a core to automatically take up the liner which was removed from laminating film during processing, and the dispensing bar in back uses rolls wound on a three inch core, the industry standard.

Let's look at some of the Polar E's other features. The roll height or gap is set by a single control knob. To raise the top roller, just push the knob to its forward position. This raises the roller. There are only two positions for the roll height control, up for the rollers closed or touching, and forward to gap the roles for using mounting boards. You can use boards from 3/16 to 1/2 inch thick.

The Polar E uses films wound on a three inch core by placing core inserts in the ends of the rolls. The roll stop is easily tightened against the insert and secures your film on the supply shaft. Another feature which is unique in its class is a release liner take up mechanism. A sturdy rubber belt connects the take up and supply shafts so they turn at the same speed and the liner is collected on the front core. The on/off button is conveniently located on the top. You can either use the button or a foot switch to control the motor.

The Polar E will complete all of your mounting and laminating needs. Check out our other videos to see how the Polar quickly makes professional displays.

Hi. Today we want to mount a photograph to an adhesive foam board. The foam board we're using is 3/16 inch thick and is coated with a permanent cold adhesive. We will do this with our new Polar E Laminator using the media bar, which holds our print in place. The first step is to tack our print to the edge of the board as we always do. You can fold back an inch at the crack and peel liner or tear it against a straight edge as we're doing here. We find tearing the liner gives a flatter surface and makes it easier to align our print. As over 90% of the board is still covered by the liner, we can slide our print around until it is in position. Then we can press down the leading edge to the board to tack our print in place.

Now we are ready to use our Polar E Laminator. The first thing we will do is open the rollers by pulling the roll height knob forward. The rolls are open and will accept our board. Then we will insert the tacked edge first and toggle the on off button so the roller stops on the tacked or leading edge. Next we insert our photo under the media bar and close the media bar against the top roller to hold our print. Now we can safely remove the liner from the rest of the board. This exposes the adhesive on the board and the media guide ensures our print won't touch the adhesive until we run the laminator.

Now we turn the laminator on to mount our print. If you use the foot pedal, you can step down on the pedal now as well to activate the rollers. The laminator does the rest. With the media guide, your print is always in the proper position and does not touch the board until it is between the rollers. That's all there is to mounting a photograph. We've completed this professionally in just a couple of minutes.

Hi. Now we want to laminate the photo we mounted in our last video. Laminate films are optically clear and come in a wide range of finishes, such as gloss or matte. Today, we will use a gloss film. The film will help the colors pop and provide scuff and moisture protection. We have already placed our roll on the supply shaft, using the inserts and roll stops we showed earlier.

The Take-up mechanism is a key Polar feature, which will make laminating easier. The first step is to attach the release liner to the Take-up Core. To do this, we will tape our liner to the core using double sided tape. You can use masking or other tapes as well to do this. Next, we will pull the film to attach the liner. All of our films are wound adhesive side in, which means that you'll always pull the film from the bottom of the roll.

Pass the film under the Media Bar, and attach the liner to the tape on the Take-up Core. The Take-up Core will collect the liner automatically while you laminate it, which can be easily removed later when you're finished laminating. The Media Bar helps to control the separation of the film from the liner, and keeps the film smooth on the roller.

Next, we will peel the film and drape it over the roller and onto the front in-feed tape. What you were looking at is the adhesive side of the film. As we're laminating a mounted print, the first step is to open the rollers to the mounting position by pulling the roll height knob forward. To wet the laminator, we will take a Leader Board, place it on the film and turn on the rollers. We will toggle the on off button so the roller will stop in the middle of the Leader Board. Visually check that the film is smooth on the roll. Now we are ready to laminate our print.

To do this, turn on the rollers. Place your mounted photo behind the Leader Board and insert it in the rollers. The laminator will do the rest. As you can see, the liner is being automatically removed, eliminating the tricky step of removing the liner in one pass. If we were laminating several prints, we could insert them in the polar laminator, one after another.

As we are finished, we want to cut the web and remove our laminator print. We will do this with an X-acto knife. Always make sure you're not cutting near the roller. First, we will cut the liner to the Take-up Core, and then we'll cut the laminating film.

Now we can let the final inches of film run through the laminator and then remove our print. Our print is laminated and ready to trim. To trim the print, an easy ways to flip it over on a cutting mat and run an X-acto knife along the edge. Then you can display your print.
