Overview

The Akiles iWire Wire Binding Machine is perfect for low-volume wire binding users, including individuals who like to craft with wire-o or make their own wire notebooks. It is an extremely easy wire binder to use, and is considered an all-in-one machine because of the ability to both punch the holes and close the wire to bind and finish the book. This attractive little wire binding machine is a 3:1 pitch (iWire 31) and will work for smaller wire sizes from 1/4" to 9/16". The top lid folds down for more compact storage when not in use, and printed instructions are on the inside, so you never have to fiddle with paper instructions again. Though incredibly easy to use, the Akiles iWire document binding machine has heat-treated steel punching pins for clean cuts, and an incredibly long life. It will punch through up to 10 sheets* at a time, and has all of the adjustable guides and settings you need to create consistent placement of the punch.

Description

The Akiles iWire Wire Binding Machine is perfect for low volume wire binding needs. The individually cast-hardened and heat-treated steel punching pins will ensure many years of trouble-free operation and easy punching, when used within its limits. It is an extremely easy personal wire binder to use, making it a popular choice for scrapbookers and crafters looking to make their own notebooks, and those with a home-office who need to bind documents. The stylish appearance fits well into any work space and the top-cover can be closed when not in use to help maintain the inner components to keep them dust-free, as well as to allow for more storage space. The vertical punching means gravity can help you align documents properly, reducing punching errors, and a 10-sheet maximum punching capacity* means you can do thin books quickly.

This is an all-in-one small wire binding machine, meaning it has both the ability to punch the holes and to close the wire spine around the holes, completing the bind. A wire diameter guide helps you choose the best wire for the thickness of your book, and a wire-sizer guide on the right of the machine can be used so you can double-check the actual size of your wire itself. A movable side margin control lets you adjust the top and bottom margins slightly to center them to your preference, and a wire closer selector lets you adjust the closer to match your wire size, so you can get a clean and precise close, every time. It also has a wire hanger, which gives you a place to conveniently set your wire so you can insert your punched pages as you punch them, which makes working inserting the pages of books (especially thick books) easier.

The Akiles iWire 31 offers a 3:1 pitch machine, with 3 holes being punched per inch, that has the capability to bind up to a 9/16" Wire-O spine. It features a durable plastic handle for smooth and effortless punching and wire closing.

The Akiles iWire punch and binding equipment offers a modern and compact design. It is the perfect all-in-one solution for any small office environment.

Available in two versions, the iWire 3:1 punches 32 holes and binds 1/4" to 9/16" Wire-O. The iWire 2:1 (discontinued 2018) punches 21 holes and binds 5/8" wire up to 1-1/4".

The Akiles iWire has an ergonomic handle for a smooth and effortless punch every time, and the individually cast-hardened, heat-treated steel punch dies ensure many years of trouble-free operation. The side margin control guarantees a well-centered punch on each document, and provides for easy alignment of sheets and reduced errors.

The Akiles iWire binding mechanism provides for a secure wire close. Easy to use, simply slide the selector bar to set the wire closer according to your wire size. Pull the handle, and you're done. An integrated wire holder keeps the wire in-place for easy insertion of sheets.

Wire Binding TIP: To provide the most professional looking documents, you can hide the junction where the wire loops come together between the last page and the back cover. Simply turn your back cover onto the front cover, with the inside of the back cover facing-out. Then after you close the wire, simply flip the back cover and the wire junction is hidden, giving you a perfect document, every time.

A dust cover keeps the inside of the machine clean and dust-free when not in use.

The Akiles iWire offers a modern and compact design that is sleek and stylish, and fits into any small professional office.

iWire Binding Machine Expert Review by Mallory Morsa

I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
The iWire is a small personal wire binding machine that is great for the at-home user, or potentially the infrequent office user. It is limited with some capabilities, so it is only good for users who need to punch and bind letter size books and for those who don’t need a bunch of customizable settings. If you need something a little more heavy duty, check out the WireMac-M, which is still under $300 and offers quite a bit more features and adjustments. The iWire is actually the lowest-volume machine that we offer, so I do not have any recommendations for something less.

WHAT I LIKE:
I love the look of the iWire; with a clean white heavy-duty plastic outer shell and black handle, this little binder matches well with a scrapbooking station or home-office. I also like that the top cover closes, which makes it quite a bit smaller for easy storage, and keeps the punching and inner components clean and dust-free when not in use. It is also nice that it comes in two models, either a 3:1 or a 2:1 pitch option; the pitch refers to how many holes are punched per inch on your binding edge, so a 3:1 punches 3 holes for thinner documents and a 2:1 punches 2 holes per inch for thicker documents. It also has the wire closer included on the unit, so you can punch and bind your pages with this one small machine and without any accessories; all you need is some Wire-O and, if you choose, report cover sheets. I also like that the punching is done vertically, instead of horizontally, which lets gravity assist in aligning the pages correctly, helping to prevent misaligned punches. The iWire also helps you choose the right wire spine size for your book, depending on the total thickness, using a wire selector piece that measures the thickness of your book and indicates the recommended wire size... which is very convenient for at-home users that are not super familiar with wire binding.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:
Because there are two different models, this means that you won’t be able to do the full range of wire binding sizes with just one machine; although we do offer special 2:1 pitch wires in all sizes, just keep in mind that anything smaller than a 5/8” wire is normally a 3:1 pitch, meaning that the holes may look a little far-spaced if you choose to use the special 2:1 wires for thinner books. This is not a problem for most users, but some just prefer the more tightly-spaced-hole look that the 3:1 pitch offers. You also need to understand that this is meant for personal users only, so it is built for very low-volume use and is not suitable as an office binding machine that gets used daily.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
If you are an individual user at home looking for a simple wire binding machine to use for crafting and scrapbook purposes, the iWire is a good choice to consider. Though it does not offer the ability to punch and bind pages other than letter size, it is a great basic machine for regular size documents and pages. You can use it to organize your own cookbooks, file paperwork, create wire bound journals and so much more.
