Overview
Perfect for individual users or small offices that bind fairly infrequently, this small coil binding machine is a durable, but economical, choice for low-volume spiral binding. It is ideal for users who bind letter size pages only, measuring 8 ½" x 11". Easy to use, just insert up to 10 sheets of 20 lb. bond paper into the paper opening, press it up against the side guide, and pull the handle down to punch your sheets. Once all your pages are punched, you can place your book into the u-shaped channel to create an ideally shaped spine, then manually insert your coil through the holes. Once it is spun all the way through with at least 1/2" extra on each side, use the optional cutter crimper pliers (not included) to cut and crimp-in the coil, finishing the bind. For an inexpensive and easy-to-use advantage, buy the Akiles RubiCoil spiral binding machine online.

I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
I recommend the Rubicoil for individual users, or possibly very small offices who do only a few small spiral books per month. For something geared a bit more toward a small office, and less toward a personal user, check out the CoilMac-M coil binding machine.
WHAT I LIKE:
The RubiCoil is an inexpensive little binding machine that lets at-home and personal users make their own coil-bound books. Perfect for the scrapbooker or crafter (like me) who likes to create their own journals, albums and more, this little machine packs a decent punch, especially considering the economical price. It is a basic machine that is very simple to use… you just put in your paper and pull the handle to punch; there are no confusing buttons or dials. This ease-of-use makes it a great idea for families with kids who like to craft together. The forest green accent colors are a nice touch that give the binder machine a less industrial-look, so it fits in with décor.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
As an at-home user storage space may be limited and the RubiCoil’s upright handle cannot be locked into the down position, so it sits at 16” high, which may be more inefficient to store as compared with machines that do have lockable handles. Since this is a very low-volume machine, it doesn’t have an electric coil inserter, so you need to spin the coils through the holes by hand using the U-shaped channel. It also has a closed binding edge, so you can only punch 11” sheets or smaller. But considering that it should only be used for a few books per month, it is not as tiring as you may think. And you can always buy a separate electric inserting machine, such as the Roll-@-Coil, if you decide it is too difficult to roll in the coils by hand.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
This is a great little machine for individual users who will scrapbook or bind just a couple books per month. It’s cute and compact, so fits well on a crafting station or desk. It is a basic and easy-to-use coil puncher that makes it hassle-free for at-home users who are not as familiar with binding as professional and industry users.
