How to Make A Calendar

How to Make A Calendar
Learn how to make a Calendar using our easy How-To-Guide. Custom calendars help you make a statement. In these calendar making instructions we will review the two most popular techniques: Wire-O and Plastic Spiral Coil. Wire Calendars have a high-class appeal and professional look while plastic spiral calendars provide a more economical choice as they require less supplies.

Wire-O Calendar

What You Will Need:

1) A Wire-O Binding Machine with Wire Closer
2) Thumb-Cut Punch (optional)
3) Wire Hangers (optional)
4) Wire-O Binding Supplies
5) Your Custom Printed Sheets
6) Wire Cutters (optional; needed only if using wire hangers)

How to Make Your Wire-O Calendar:

Step 1 Position the paper guide on your binding machine based on your desired paper size. Gather your printed sheets and insert the allotted amount of paper into the opening. When the paper is fully inserted, slide the stack to the left until it makes contact with the paper guide. To make sure all of the edges of the sheets are flush, tap the sides of the stack. Punch the sheets.

Step 2 Arrange your sheets in the desired order. Flip the back cover so that it is on the front of the arrangement. The inside of your back cover should now be the first sheet in your arrangement. You will see in later steps that this will hide the wire spine, making the appearance more professional.

Step 3 If using the optional wire hangers, cut and remove the center two loops of your Wire-O binding spine using your wire cutters, creating two pieces of wire. This creates a gap that is necessary for the wire hanger to be inserted. Use the thumb-cut punch in this gap, (the center of the binding edge) creating a half-moon cut for the wire hanger to rotate.

Step 4 Insert the wire into your punched paper. If using the wire hangers, center the wire hanger inside the wire spine, making sure that the wire hanger loop is placed in the gab of the paper and wire.

Step 5 Set your Wire Closer to the appropriate Wire-O size that you are using. Carefully place your paper on the wire closer table, with the open portion of the wire pressed against the bottom of the wire closer. Pull the wire closer handle to close and secure the wire around you calendar.

Step 6 Flip the top sheet (your back cover) to the back of the calendar to hide the spine and see your completed calendar.

Plastic Coil Calendar

What You Will Need:

1) A Plastic Coil Binding Machine
2) A Small Paper Punch (to place a tack or needed to hold the calendar)
3) Plastic Coil Binding Supplies
4) Cutter & Crimper Pliers
5) Your Custom Printed Sheets

How to Make Your Plastic Coil Calendar:

Step 1 Position the paper guide on your binding machine based on your desired paper size. Gather your printed sheets and insert the allotted amount of paper into the opening. When the paper is fully inserted, slide the stack to the left until it makes contact with the paper guide. To make sure all of the edges of the sheets are flush, tap the sides of the stack. Press the foot pedal, push the button, or pull the handle to punch the sheets.

Step 2 Arrange your sheets in the desired order. Punch the hole for the tack or nail. Tip: Before punching, flip through the calendar as if it were bound to be sure all pages are in the correct order.

Step 3 Manually insert and spin the plastic coil into the first 3 or 4 holes of your stack. If you are using an electric coil inserter, hold the binding edge of the book with the coil against the activated spinning rollers. If you are not using the electric coil inserter, continue to spin the coil manually all the way through the binding edge.

Step 4 Place your calendar flat on the table. Using your right hand, make sure that the red-dot on the cutter & crimper Pliers is facing up. Place the cutting head to the center of the coil & squeeze the handles. It is important to center that cutting head, otherwise the the coil will not crimp. Flip the book over and repeat the steps to cut & crimp the other side. If you are having problems crimping, take a look at our Cutter & Crimer Pliers How-To Video.
