Overview

If you need the ability to punch and bind electrically, as frequently as several times a day, then consider buying the CoilMac-EPI electric punch and electric coil inserter online. This high-quality book binding machine works perfectly with spiral binding coils - punching holes through up to 25 sheets of 20 lb. paper at a time, with the simple activation of a foot pedal, and rolling coils through your punched holes with the electric rollers, activated by a button. The foot pedal punching means both of your hands are free to handle your papers. Once punched, just roll the coil through the first few holes, flip on the roller switch, and hold your book against the roller to pull it through the rest of the book. Then you can use the cutter crimper pliers (sold separately) to finish the end of the coil. The heavy duty motor and cutting edge punching mechanism make the Akiles CoilMac-EPI coil binder one of the most popular choices for print-on-demand shops and offices with daily binding needs.

Description

The CoilMac-EPI Electric Punch and Electric Bind (4:1) is the first all-in-one unit that offers both electric punching and electric coil inserting in one compact unit making Spiral Binding fast, easy, and convenient. The CoilMac-EPI offers a heavy duty motor and state of the art punching mechanisms. The heavy-duty motor will punch through up to 25 sheets of 20# paper with ease.

The EPI features an Electro-Magnetic Brake, giving it the capability to handle heavier loads, provide a longer life, & always offer trouble free punching. The Reverse (Anti-jam) Function easily removed paper jams due to overfilled waste drawers or overloading the machine with too much paper. The foot pedal operated built-in electric coil inserter allows the operator the free working of both hands and complete control of the roller. This drastically reduces time and costs by making the inserting surprisingly fast and easy. The depth margin control allows you to determine how deep set you want your punched holes on the binding edge. This allows for better tear resistance. The U-shaped alignment channel aides in conforming the spine of larger documents to the coil's shape, for faster and easier insertion. This tool is especially helpful with large books. The all metal construction is heavy duty and built to last. CoilMac-EPI Plus with oval holes for easier inserting also available.

With its heavy duty punching motor and a built-in electric coil inserter, the Akiles* CoilMac-EPI is a professional system that makes coil binding fast, easy, and convenient. Designed for commercial volume workloads, it offers a heavy duty motor and state of the art features.

The CoilMac-EPI features an electric punch with high volume punching capacity of up to 25 sheets of 20 lb bond. The electric reverse anti-jam function provides trouble free punching. The die is a 4:1, .250 pitch with 4 millimeter round holes.

The side margin control makes sure the punched holes are evenly centered for all document sizes.

The 5 dis-engage able punch pins are designed to punch most standard paper sizes.

The punch offers an extended 13" punching length with open ends for larger size documents and the continuous punch guide makes it easy to punch documents of any length up to 26".

The punching gutter margin control provides the correct punch-margin-depth for each coil size and maximizes the document's tear resistance.

The built-in electric coil inserter makes binding books quick and easy. The full length inserting rollers provides high friction making this inserter one of the easiest-to-use. The front-mounted roller position gives operator greater control and improves efficiency. While the foot-pedal operation allows for hands free binding.

A U-shaped alignment channel assists the operator to properly shape the document's spine, for faster and easier coil insertion

To operate, simply start the first couple loops of coil by hand. Hit the foot pedal to start the roller spinning and tap the coil against the roller. The coil automatically spins into the holes that were punched in the document.

All of our coil binding systems include a pair of hand cutter crimping pliers at no additional charge. Simply insert the end of the coil into the crimping tool and squeeze.

The CoilMac-EPI is built with rugged all metal construction, making it the most reliable & durable coil binding system in its class.

Akiles CoilMac-EPI Spiral Binding Machine Review by Mallory Morsa

I RECOMMEND THIS FOR:
The CoilMac-EPI is an electric punch and an electric binding system for spiral binding coils that I recommend for small print shops or offices that need to bind frequently, even multiple times a day, or is large (but not production) volumes. For the same power, but with additional features, consider the EPI Plus version, or for something a little less rugged, check out the CoilMac-EX Plus.

WHAT I LIKE:
Akiles is a pretty well-know and trusted brand, that does a good job making quality machines for the binding industry. Their EPI binder machine is no different, so I am happy with the quality of components. It’s made of a durable metal, not cheap plastic, so sits firmly on a work station for a stable work environment. It is fairly easy to use for the industry it is directed to…as in, a print shop or facility that is familiar with coil binding on a basic level. If you are brand new, training and learning the machine is very easy too. Integrated features like 5 disengageable pins, dials, guides, etc. make it easy to get the perfect punching pattern for a variety of common sheet sizes.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:
When it comes to an “all electric” machine, it is a bit of a bummer to realize you still have to manually crimp and cut the coils to finish them. The price is also a little off putting, when you consider that there is an all-electric machine available for less, called the Rhin-O-Tuff® System 3000. But what you should keep in mind is the recommended volume… the EPI is rated for users who bind daily or even multiple times a day in higher volumes, so has a more powerful motor. There have been a few complaints over the years about inner parts being difficult to replace and easily damaged, but as long as you don’t push this machine (or any machine, for that matter) to the max capacity 100% of the time, this will rarely come up. This was designed for standard sheet sizes, such as letter size, half size, legal size, etc. with the 5 punch pins that can be removed. If you need more customization opportunity, the EPI Plus model requires only a little more investment and packs several bonus features.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Akiles is a reliable brand with a one year warranty that protects you against defects, offering more assurance than the common 90 day warranty offered by other manufacturers. It has several features designed to help you customize your punch, as well as get a professional finish, each and every time. At the end of it all, I recommend the CoilMac-ECI spiral binding machine as a start-up machine for users that bind coil on-demand for clients, such as Kinko’s, or as a durable office machine for client books, inter-company presentations, and more.
